Post Partum Care Specialist in Sheffield | Pooja Guria
"A positive postnatal experience is defined as one in which women receive information, reassurance and support in a consistent manner from motivated health workers" - World Health Organisation 2022
Most women that go to their GP for their 6 week post partum check up don’t feel like they get everything checked. This check is more to sign you off as medically fit, it is not a return to life check. Often back pain or pelvic floor symptoms get brushed over, and people don’t know what to do next. This is why we started post partum care appointments with our specialist Pooja Guria
Our Post Partum Care Process
Understanding
We start with listening to you, wanting to understand what your questions are and what you want to understand or are concerned about
Your Goals
Giving birth is a massive change, we’re here to help you move towards what matters to you. With training in specialist post partum care with Mummy MOT Pooja is perfectly placed to help
What to Expect
Whilst everyone recovers from childbirth slightly differently, we can help you understand some of the normal timeframes to help you manage your expectations and understand if what you are feeling is normal.
A full examination including core, movement and pelvic floor (if you have concerns) follows to help understand exactly where your body is.
Treatment to any areas of pain will usually start in the initial appointment and a written plan and exercise video will follow the appointment.
Plan
A realistic plan is so valuable. You need one you can trust is working towards your goals so you can get back to what matters to you.
This will not only help you pace your return but give a realistic timeframe.
In the plan we give you, there will be a mixture of exercises. The exercises usually start with getting the breath connected to the core and some pelvic floor activations. This helps to build stability from the inside out.
We aim to get the foundation movements strong so that when you get back to doing more complex movements, you have less chance of getting an injury or pain.
As a general rule, the earliest we would look to return to weight training is 8 weeks and low-impact running is 3 months.
How soon after birth can I see a post partum specialist?
We suggest waiting at least 6 weeks before having an appointment and there is no such thing as too late if you think you have issues related to birth.
